Adults-only … but SFW!

September was crazy this year, but in a good way. We moved into a house and then celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary, leaving the boxes and clutter behind for four fantabulous nights in beautiful Cancun. If you’re looking for recommendations for a getaway of your own, I have three words for you: Excellence Playa Mujures.

I’m sure there are other all-inclusive, adults-only resorts that would’ve earned the same review. But since this was our first experience at such a place, we can’t compare it to anything else. However, it’s hard to imagine having a better time in a better setting with better accommodations and better service than we enjoyed last week.

When you’re the parent of two active children, often in their company and the presence others like them, it can take a moment to grow accustomed to seeing nothing but grown folk morning, noon and night. But once you get used to it … I wouldn’t trade my girls for anything, but I’d be lying if I said I missed them! I figured I’d see them and their friends soon enough, so I definitely enjoyed the break!

Vanessa and I have been on a couple of cruises and we thoroughly enjoyed those experiences. I’d equate the all-inclusive resort to a cruise on land. There were eight gourmet restaurants (Mediterranean, Asian, Mexican, Italian, French, Seafood, Steakhouse and International) to choose from and 10 bars to belly-up to. I’m not a big drinker and Vanessa’s a teetotaler, but if you’re into adult beverages, you could get your drink on from 9 am to 1 am. And 24-hour room service was available to fill in any gaps.

Some folks might think about nudity, swinging and XXX when they hear “adult-only,” but this was definitely safe for work. I didn’t see any (public) nudity. And I can’t speak to other couples’ behavior behind closed doors, where, admittedly, two TV channels in the room were devoted to up-close-and-personal human inter… actions. (I shuddered when imagining an innocent kid landing there while channel-surfing).

We didn’t take any tours or excursion – we’d done those when we visited Cancun for our fifth anniversary. This was about relaxing, lying around the pool, enjoying free massages, getting some reading done, eating to our hearts’ content and enjoying frozen concoctions. But we did rent a WaveRunner, something I’ve always wanted to do. That was a blast! We also took a tennis lesson, a salsa lesson, a yoga class and a bike tour.

We couldn’t have asked for a better trip. I highly recommend Excellence Playa Mujures. But if you can’t go there, go somewhere else if at all possible. There’s nothing like a romantic getaway to recharge your battery and ignite a spark.
