President Vanessa Williams Snyder is a seasoned educator in the District of Columbia Public School system and previously was a longtime editor and writer with Gannett News Service.

A native Washingtonian, she is certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and nearing completion of her Doctor of Education degree from Walden University. Vanessa previously earned Educational Specialist and Master’s degrees from Walden and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland. Among her many education honors is a Golden Apple Award for “Teacher of Distinction.” Vanessa has written freelance articles for several magazines — including Gospel Today, Excellence and Emerge — and also writes Sunday School curriculum for youth. Her first novel, “The Second First Lady,” was released in 2010.
